Ungeheuer G.C. Riesling dry QW Pfalz 1.5L

The Ungeheuer is one of the great sites of the Pfalz — and Bürklin-Wolf's Riesling shows why: bone-dry expression with a minerality that seems to be drunk from the soil rather than the grape.

The Dr. Bürklin-Wolf winery in Wachenheim is one of the oldest and most well-known addresses in the Pfalz. Biodynamically farmed and Demeter-certified since 2005, the estate focuses on site expression — the Ungeheuer in Forst is one of its flagships. Heavy basalt soils and one of the warmest micro-sites in Germany define the style: power and freshness combined.

In the glass, it reveals a Riesling with citrus zest, white peach, and a distinct slate tone in the background. The acidity is precise and taut, without being sharp — it runs through the wine like a red thread and leads into a long, salty-mineral finish. Not a lush, broad wine, but a concise, straightforward performance.

Best served at 9 °C. Pairs excellently with grilled lobster and langoustines, stuffed sea bream, or scallops with butter sauce. The 1.5-liter magnum bottle is also suitable for a festive table — Riesling of this quality benefits from the larger volume.
