Friulano Collio DOC

The Friulano from Russiz Superiore shows what the Collio can do: a grape variety that appears nowhere else as clearly and characterfully as on the ponca hills between Friuli and Slovenia.

Russiz Superiore is one of the traditional wineries of the Collio DOC. The sites on the typical flysch rock — locally called ponca, a mixture of sandstone and marl — give the wines a mineral tension that remains clearly perceptible in the glass.

On the nose, the wine opens with almond blossom, broom, and chamomile — a floral line typical of Friulano. Added to this is a spicy accent of green pepper, which gives the bouquet depth. On the palate, it shows a silky texture with fresh fruit at the same time, the structure carries without dominating. The finish is long and holds the spicy note until the end.

Serving suggestion: Well chilled at 10–12 °C. Pairs with seafood risotto, grilled sea bass, burrata with tomato, or Prosciutto di San Daniele.

Russiz Superiore

Russiz Superiore is an Italian winery, located in Capriva del Friuli in the east of the country just before the border with Slovenia. Together with the winery Marco Felluga, it has existed since the middle of the 19th century, and both are now managed in the sixth generation by Ilaria Felluga. The region has a mild climate thanks to the proximity to the sea (30 km) and the protection of the Alps in the north. The soils of the region consist mainly of sandstone and marl and give the 100 ha of vineyard area the best conditions for the company's viticulture. Cultivated grape varieties include Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, or Tocai Friulano.
