Rudolf Fürst Fürst Riesling R GG tr Centgrafenberg
Centgrafenberg is one of the great Riesling vineyards of Franconia – and Rudolf Fürst's R GG shows what this variegated sandstone soil can do: depth, spice and a tension that only fully unfolds with some air.
The Rudolf Fürst winery in Bürgstadt is primarily famous for its Pinot Noir, but the Rieslings from the Centgrafenberg vineyard prove that the Fürst family is also among the best producers of white wine in Franconia. The Centgrafenberg vineyard lies on red sandstone – a soil that imparts a distinctive spiciness and mineral depth to the Riesling, rarely found elsewhere.
On the nose, the wine displays a cool, herbaceous character, underpinned by bright yellow fruit, a hint of bacon, and delicate floral notes. With aeration, it opens up to greater complexity. On the palate, it is juicy and firm, with lively acidity and a touch of ripe tannins – unusual for Riesling, but typical of the Bunter sandstone soil. The finish is long, mineral, and characterized by a delicate, creamy texture.
Drinking window: now until 2032. Recommendation: Pike-perch with mustard sauce, veal medallions with herb butter, or strong mountain cheese. Temperature: 12–14 °C.
