Rudolf Fürst Fürst Riesling R GG tr Centgrafenberg
The Centgrafenberg is one of the great Riesling sites in Franconia – and Rudolf Fürst's R GG shows what this variegated sandstone soil can do: depth, spice, and a tension that only fully unfolds with a little air.
The Rudolf Fürst winery in Bürgstadt is primarily famous for its Pinot Noir, but the Rieslings from the Centgrafenberg prove that the Fürst family is also among the best addresses in Franconia for white wine. The Centgrafenberg lies on red variegated sandstone – a soil that gives the Riesling a peculiar spice and mineral depth that is hard to find elsewhere in this form.
On the nose, the wine shows a cool, herbal-vegetal line, underpinned by light yellow fruit, a hint of bacon, and fine floral tones. With air contact, it opens up to more complexity. On the palate, it is juicy and firm, with lively acidity and a hint of ripe tannins – unusual for Riesling, but typical for variegated sandstone. The finish is long, mineral, and characterized by a delicate melt.
Recommendation: Zander with mustard sauce, veal medallions with herb butter, or strong mountain cheese. Temperature: 12–14 °C.
