Ungstein Weilberg Riesling GG

The Ungstein Weilberg is one of the most characterful Grosses Gewächs of the Palatinate – a Riesling that combines depth with precision and is not afraid of a few years of cellar rest.

Weingut Rings from Freinsheim is one of the most reliable addresses in the Palatinate. The brothers Andreas and Stefan Rings manage their vineyards with a clear signature: precise vineyard work, gentle hand-picking and restrained aging – so that the site can speak. The Weilberg in Ungstein is located on variegated sandstone and limestone, which gives this Riesling its characteristic tension between fruit and minerality.

On the nose, yellow mirabelle, apricot and fresh floral aromas appear – acacia blossom, a hint of white peach. Then the change on the palate: tart citrus fruit, precise acidity structure, and underneath a salty, almost chalky minerality that carries the wine. The finish is long, spicy and sustainable – with subtle stone fruit tones that remain present minutes after the last sip.

Drinking recommendation: 12–13 °C. Pairs with zander on beurre blanc, grilled sea bass with fennel or ripe Comté.

Rings

VDP Member Estate

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
