Reichsrat von Buhl Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate – that sounds unusual, but it works convincingly at Reichsrat von Buhl. Instead of the heavy, high-alcohol variety one might expect from some new wine regions, this wine reveals a cool, precise side.

The Reichsrat von Buhl winery is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Palatinate. Founded in 1849, it has been under Japanese ownership since 2014, maintaining a consistent focus on quality and precision. The Sauvignon Blanc is an expression of the mild climate and the calcareous-sandy soils around Deidesheim.

On the nose, gooseberry, blackcurrant, and a fresh, grassy-herbal note – like a meadow just after rain. On the palate, firm acidity, medium body, clear fruit without being overpowering. The finish remains fresh and briefly spicy.

Serving suggestion: Well chilled at 9–11 °C. Pairs well with goat cheese, roasted asparagus, light pasta dishes with herb sauce, or as an aperitif on a warm evening. Drink now – no aging required.

Reichsrat von Buhl

VDP Member Estate

In 1849, Franz Peter Buhl founded the winery in Deidesheim – emerging from the division of the Jordan estate, which also gave rise to Bassermann-Jordan and von Winning. Today, all three belong to the Niederberger Group. On approximately 56 hectares, nearly 90 percent is planted with Riesling. The top sites are located in Forst – Kirchenstück, Ungeheuer, and Pechstein – in addition to parcels in Wachenheim, Ruppertsberg, and Königsbach. The VDP estate has been organically certified since 2009 and operates biodynamically. Since 2013, the style has been shaped by Mathieu Kauffmann, formerly cellar master at Champagne Bollinger. His signature is particularly evident in the sparkling wines, which are produced using traditional bottle fermentation.
