Pünderich Marienburg Fahrlay Terrassen Riesling GG

The Fahrlay terraces are among the most distinctive vineyard sites of Marienburg in Pünderich – red slate soil, steep slopes, full southern exposure. What grows here tastes of the place.

Clemens Busch has been cultivating his steep vineyards on the Lower Moselle biodynamically for decades. Spontaneous fermentation, gentle cellar management – the wines should let the terroir speak for itself, not the cellar. The Grosses Gewächs from the Fahrlay vineyard is his prime example of this philosophy.

In the glass, the Riesling displays citrus and grapefruit, along with ripe peach and a cool, almost salty minerality reminiscent of wet slate. On the palate, juicy fruit with herbal spice and fine acidity that keeps the wine taut without being harsh. The finish is long and dry, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass with caper butter, goat cheese, or a classic Moselle sauerbraten. With some aging – from 2026 onwards – the wine's character will develop even further.
