Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz

Coonawarra is considered Australia's most precise red wine vineyard – the famous Terra Rossa, a narrow strip of reddish-brown clay over limestone, gives Shiraz a structure and coolness rarely found in other Australian regions. Penfolds has been using this site for decades for Bin 128, a Shiraz that deliberately forgoes power in favor of depth.

In the glass, blackberry, plum, and preserved cherry emerge, underpinned by rosemary, pink peppercorns, and a hint of forest soil. Aging in French oak barrels introduces cedar and mocha notes without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, the wine is vibrant: dense yet fine-grained tannins, crisp acidity, and a long, spicy finish with hints of coffee bean and dark chocolate.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, herb-crusted beef fillet, or a mature hard cheese like aged Cheddar. If you'd like to open it, you can do so now—after decanting for one to two hours. It will reveal even more depth after another three to five years in the cellar.
