Mittelheim St. Nikolaus Riesling GG

The Mittelheim St. Nikolaus is one of the most distinctive Grosses Gewächs wines of the Rheingau — not an easy-drinking wine, but a Riesling that needs and rewards time.

The Spreitzer winery has cultivated the Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus vineyard in Oestrich-Winkel for generations. The steep slope above the Rhine yields grapes of exceptional depth: earthy minerality that permeates every sip, and a fruit structure that will continue to develop for years to come.

In the glass, a cool, floral aroma unfolds—rose blossom, a hint of curry spice, and delicate yellow fruit (mirabelle, mandarin), underpinned by slightly yeasty, earthy notes. On the palate, dense, herbaceous flavors emerge alongside almond-nutty hints and a very fine, precise acidity. The finish is long, slightly sweet, with a grip that signals structure: this wine is not yet finished. A touch of butter and spice rounds out the impression.

Drinking window: 2026–2035. Currently still undeveloped — those who bring patience will be rewarded with greater complexity.
Temperature: 11–13 °C.
Dishes: Pike-perch fillet with herb butter, poultry in cream sauce, mature Comté or spicy soft cheese.
