Matthias Gaul Sauvignon Blanc Grand Fumé

Matthias Gaul Sauvignon Blanc Grand Fumé
A Sauvignon Blanc that promises more than just freshness: Matthias Gaul's Grand Fumé from Asselheim demonstrates what the Palatinate region is capable of when winemakers work with conviction. This wine is for you if you appreciate white wine with depth and personality – and are ready to be surprised by a German Sauvignon Blanc.
The grapes grow on high-altitude vineyards around the village of Asselheim and are harvested exclusively by hand. After fermentation, the wine matures for approximately ten months in barriques – this imparts a subtle smokiness and creamy texture without masking the varietal fruit characteristics. In the glass, it displays a rich golden yellow color.
The nose opens with aromas of gooseberry, passion fruit, and grapefruit , underpinned by a subtle hint of wood spice. On the palate, it is powerful yet surprisingly balanced – fresh minerality meets soft tannins and a long, pleasantly dry finish.
Especially nice with:
- Fried sea bass or loup de mer
- Goat cheese and Robiola
- Asparagus with hollandaise sauce
- Creamy pasta with herbs
Serve it at around 10 to 12 degrees – and give it a few minutes in the glass before it reaches its full potential.
