Kaiken May

Kaiken May
The Kaiken Mai is Kaiken Wines' flagship Malbec – denser, more structured and designed for longer aging than the most common entry-level Malbecs from Mendoza.
Kaiken was founded in 2001 by the traditional Chilean winery Montes in Mendoza. The grapes for the May vintage come from high-altitude vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, where cooler nights and intense sunshine ensure concentration while preserving acidity. It is aged in French oak barrels – hence the subtle oak spice without any heavy, toasty aromas.
In the glass, the Mai displays a deep ruby red. The nose offers blackberry, dark plum, and a hint of smoked wood, with notes of chocolate and tobacco underneath. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with velvety tannins and lively acidity. The finish is long and slightly spicy with vanilla and dark berries.
Recommendation: Pairs well with pan-seared beef, leg of lamb with a herb crust, or mature Manchego cheese. Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2028.
