Forster Ziegler Riesling dry Erstes Gewächs

The site is located on the western slope of Forst and is arguably the most famous Forster, if not Palatinate, vineyard site. Spectacular drops grow here year after year. The wines are predestined for the best qualities. Not only Goethe but also Otto von Bismarck appreciated the Forster Ungeheuer very much: "This monster (Ungeheuer) tastes monstrously good to me." Here, it was not a monster, but a person's name that was formative. In Deidesheim in the 17th century, there was a town clerk by the name of Johann Adam Ungeheuer, who died in the year 1699. At the monastery church in Mußbach, there is a tombstone with the name Ungeheuer.

The grapes benefited from the vintage and reached optimal ripeness very late. In the cellar, the wine was left to itself and fermented for just under four weeks. The result is opulence and power. Paired with the finesse and elegance of the Riesling, a great wine has been created that, despite everything, possesses playfulness and finesse. The fine acidity structure gives it a delicate note and gives it an aging potential for the next 8-10 years.

Bassermann-Jordan – Mundus Vini Summer Tasting 2020 named this winery "Best Winery in Germany." Rightly so, we think.

The family business in Deidesheim in the Palatinate looks back on a long tradition – founded in 1718 by Andreas Jordan. Today, Jana Niederberger runs the estate with passion and is thus among the 100 best wineries in Germany.

Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon grow on 49 hectares of vineyards, spread over 20 individual sites. The soils? An exciting mixture of variegated sandstone, loess, basalt, and porphyry.

What is particularly convincing: exclusively manual labor during selection and organic farming methods. This is how 450,000 bottles full of character are created every year – Palatinate love in every bottle.
