Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino

The Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino is, alongside the Brunello, one of the absolute classics among red wines from Tuscany. With the Campo ai Sassi from Frescobaldi, you have a particularly varied representative in your wine rack: cherry, plum, and currant provide an initial fruity impression. It is excellently rounded off by fine notes of cinnamon and anise, tobacco, and leather. Despite its spiciness, the Campo ai Sassi is a fresh Rosso di Montalcino that appears almost youthful on one hand, but is juicy and soft to drink on the other.

Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino comes from the Tenuta CastelGiocondo, one of the various wineries of the Marchesi de Frescobaldi. Here it is pressed exclusively from the Sangiovese grape - albeit from younger vineyards than the Brunello. As a result, it contains less tannin and therefore appears lighter and more playful. Nevertheless, you will enjoy the Campo ai Sassi for a long time: you can drink it now, but you can also easily let it lie for ten years.

The Winery

Frescobaldi

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the great names in Tuscany – and has been for around 700 years. Today, the family manages nine individual estates, from the cool Apennine slopes of Pomino and Chianti Rufina to the Maremma coast, clearly bringing the characteristics of each terroir into the bottle.

Tiziana, Lamberto, and Diana Frescobaldi lead the house in the 30th generation with the same standards as their ancestors: taking tradition seriously without skimping on development. Since 2012, all estates have held the AgriQualità certification from the Tuscany region; Castello Nipozzano and Castello Pomino were also the first Tuscan wineries with PEFC certification for sustainable forest management.
