Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rufina DOCG

For over 100 years, the mighty fortress of the Castelo di Nippozano has dominated the vineyards on the border of two different geological formations. The Mugello massif made of sandstone, whose soils produce pleasantly fragrant, elegant grapes, as well as the Macigno del Chianti, on whose rather marly soils vines grow that result in powerful and concentrated wines. Both soil types combine in the most advantageous way in the world-famous Chianti Rufina Riserva of Castello di Nippozano.

The Nippozano Riserva shines in the glass in a clear, powerful ruby red with purple rim brightening; the color density is good. Its scent is initially characterized by fruity aromas of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, and cherry, followed by sweet notes of sage, rosemary, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate, it shows itself pleasantly spicy with beautiful tannins, fresh and harmonious. It is warm and soft. In the finish, balsamic hints of black pepper and cocoa.

24 months aging in barriques

The Nipozzano is the best wine of the year, finds the magazine "Wine Enthusiast," which lists the 100 best wines worldwide in its December 2011 issue.

The Winery

Frescobaldi

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the great names in Tuscany – and has been for around 700 years. Today, the family manages nine individual estates, from the cool Apennine slopes of Pomino and Chianti Rufina to the Maremma coast, clearly bringing the characteristics of each terroir into the bottle.

Tiziana, Lamberto, and Diana Frescobaldi lead the house in the 30th generation with the same standards as their ancestors: taking tradition seriously without skimping on development. Since 2012, all estates have held the AgriQualità certification from the Tuscany region; Castello Nipozzano and Castello Pomino were also the first Tuscan wineries with PEFC certification for sustainable forest management.
