Haras de Pirque

Haras de Pirque – a winery and horse farm in the heart of the Maipo Valley. In 1991, Eduardo Matte acquired the property and opened it as a winery. It comprises 600 hectares of land, 120 of which are vineyards. The main building, shaped like a horseshoe, is a striking landmark. Today, the estate is 50 percent owned by the Marchesi Antinori family from Tuscany. Together, they produce wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenère, and other grape varieties. The Pirque subregion is considered one of Chile's best wine-growing areas worldwide, especially for red wines. In 2004, their first joint project debuted: Albis. Haras de Pirque is located in the Pirque subregion, in the heart of the Maipo Valley – one of Chile's most prestigious red wine regions. Eduardo Matte acquired the 600-hectare estate in 1991, 120 hectares of which are now planted with grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, and Syrah. The striking horseshoe-shaped main building hints at the estate's other passion: a working horse farm, which gives the winery its name.

Since partnering with the Marchesi Antinori from Tuscany – one of Italy's most influential wine families – Tuscan craftsmanship has flowed into Pirque's cellars. In 2004, the first joint cuvée project, Albis, was created: a wine that combines Chilean terroir and Italian winemaking tradition. This collaboration has since shaped the style of the entire range – structured, age-worthy, and with a clear connection to its origin.

The soils of the Pirque subregion, characterized by alluvial deposits from the Andes and a pronounced day-night temperature difference, provide the foundation for red wines with both depth and freshness.
