Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett

A light-footed Mosel Riesling with the characteristic tension between fine residual sweetness and lively slate minerality — a Kabinett as described in the textbook, but rarely executed so well.

Schloss Lieser is situated directly on the Middle Moselle, between Bernkastel and Traben-Trarbach. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is considered one of the most famous Riesling sites in the world: steep slopes, blue Devonian slate, maximum sun exposure. Since Thomas Haag took over the winery in 1992, Schloss Lieser has been one of the Moselle's premier wineries—with a clear signature style: precise fruit expression, clean fermentation, and no compromises on grape quality.

In the glass, the Kabinett displays aromas of white peach, apricot, and fresh lime zest, underpinned by a mineral slate note that grounds the wine. On the palate, it is light and playful—the typical Kabinett body of around 8–9% ABV—with a crisp acidity that cleanly integrates the residual sweetness and leaves no sticky residue. The finish is saline and long, with a hint of citrus peel.

Serving temperature: 8–10 °C. Drinking window until 2030, with potential for further development. Pairs well with Asian dishes with chili and ginger, river trout, light goat cheese, or simply on its own as a summer evening companion.

Lieser Castle

The Schloss Lieser winery boasts a fascinating history dating back to the 19th century. In 1904, Eduard Puricelli acquired Schloss Lieser and began cultivating vines. Today, the winery is owned by the Nett family and represents a long tradition of producing high-quality Moselle wines. Picturesquely situated on the banks of the Moselle River, it encompasses some of the region's finest vineyards. The steep slopes and slate soil offer ideal conditions for growing Riesling, the winery's primary grape variety. The winery combines traditional winemaking methods with modern technology to produce wines of exceptional quality. The Schloss Lieser portfolio includes a wide range of wines that reflect the diversity and quality of the Moselle region. Particularly noteworthy are the Rieslings, the winery's signature wines, renowned for their elegance, freshness, and minerality. In addition, the winery also produces other grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, which perfectly express the terroir and the winemaker's expertise. At Schloss Lieser, quality is paramount. The winery relies on meticulous handwork in the vineyard and gentle processing of the grapes in the cellar to unlock the full potential of the wines. Winemaking is carried out using traditional methods and state-of-the-art viticultural techniques to produce wines of the highest quality and authenticity.
