Viñas del Vero La Miranda de Secastilla Garnacha Tinto

Old Garnacha vines, barren mountain sites in Somontano — La Miranda de Secastilla shows what this grape variety can achieve in the Aragonese highlands: depth, spice, and an unmistakable independence.

Viñas del Vero is one of the defining wineries of the D.O. Somontano in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The Bodega Secastilla, from which this wine originates, is a member of the Grandes Pagos de España — an association dedicated to the preservation of autochthonous grape varieties and individual vineyard sites. The vines in the Guardia Miranda vineyard are old, deeply rooted, and yield low quantities with concentrated fruit potential.

In the glass, the wine appears with a dark ruby red. The nose brings ripe blackberry, pomegranate, and a hint of lavender — typical for Garnacha from cool high altitudes. On the palate, it feels velvety, with a medium body, soft tannins, and an invigorating spice on the finish that is reminiscent of red pepper and dry herbs.

Viñas del Vero

The Spanish winery Viñas del Vero was founded in 1986 in the Somontano region and initially had about 550 hectares of vineyards. Since 2008, the company has belonged to the Sherry group González Byass. Today, the winery owns over 1000 hectares of vineyards, which consist mainly of sandstone soils with chalk and clay components. In the Somontano region, there is a temperate climate, which is characterized by cold winters and rather short summers. The average temperature here is 11°C. Furthermore, Viñas del Vero has a state-of-the-art wine cellar with tall stainless steel tanks, which, thanks to their size and the use of gravity, make mechanical means unnecessary. The winery's cultivated grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Garnacha and Merlot. Viñas del Vero produces approx. five million bottles of wine annually.
