Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino DOC

The Rosso di Montalcino from Villa Poggio Salvi is the more approachable sibling of the Brunello — Sangiovese Grosso from the hilly landscape south of Siena, aged for twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels, with the character of the appellation and a drinking window that is already enjoyable today.

Villa Poggio Salvi is located in the southern part of the Montalcino region, where the soils are richer in clay and the climate somewhat warmer than in the north—this gives the wines richness and ripe fruit. Slavonian oak, the region's traditional oak, imparts a more subtle character than new barriques: it gives the wine structure without overpowering it with wood aromas.

The glass reveals dark sour cherry and blackberry, along with violets, a hint of dried herbs, and a touch of tobacco in the background. The tannins are present but well-integrated—no harshness, rather a firm, pleasant mouthfeel. Medium-long finish with a spicy note.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Drink now until 2027. Pairs well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina , wild boar salami, pasta al ragù or mature Pecorino Toscano.
