Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino DOC

Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino DOC
The Rosso di Montalcino from Villa Poggio Salvi is the more accessible brother of the Brunello — Sangiovese Grosso from the hilly landscape south of Siena, aged for twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels, with the character of the appellation.
Villa Poggio Salvi is located in the southern part of the Montalcino area, where the soils are richer in clay and the climate is somewhat warmer than in the north — this gives the wines fullness and ripe fruit. Slavonian oak, traditional material of the region, shapes more subtly than new barrique: it gives the wine structure without overlaying it with wood aromas.
In the glass, dark sour cherry and blackberry appear, plus violets, a hint of dried herbs, and some tobacco in the background. The tannins are present, but well-integrated — nothing edgy, rather a grippy, pleasant mouthfeel. Medium-long finish with a spicy note.
Drinking temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar salami, pasta al ragù, or ripe Pecorino Toscano.
