Single Vineyard Seaspray Sauvignon Blanc

Salty sea air, crisp acidity and a pronounced herbal spiciness — the Seaspray Sauvignon Blanc from Villa Maria shows what the Awatere coastal region in Marlborough can do.

The Awatere Valley lies in the southern part of Marlborough, directly exposed to the Pacific Ocean. Wind and oceanic influences result in cooler temperatures than in the neighboring Wairau Valley—leading to slower ripening, higher acidity, and a characteristic mineral salinity. The vines grow on sandy river gravel soil that retains heat during the day and releases it quickly at night. Villa Maria is one of New Zealand's pioneers and has been working with this terroir for decades.

In the glass, the wine reveals aromas of kaffir lime, green bell pepper, and freshly picked herbs—basil, chives, and a hint of nasturtium. A salty, almost shell-like undertone further points to the oceanic influence of the vineyard site. The acidity is lively and well-structured, the finish dry and long.

Best served between 8 and 10 °C . Pairs well with grilled sea bass with herb butter, ceviche, goat cheese, or oysters on ice. Drinking window: now until 2027.
