Statti Gaglioppo Rosso
Gaglioppo is Calabria's most important red grape variety — and Statti shows what it's capable of: an approachable, aromatically lively red wine with southern Italian character without a heavy hand.
The Statti winery has cultivated around 500 hectares in the Lamezia plain between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aspromonte mountains for generations. The Mediterranean climate, with its dry summers and the influence of the sea breeze, shapes the grape variety: Gaglioppo needs sun and warmth to develop its full aromatic potential.
In the glass, it displays a luminous ruby red. The nose offers wild strawberry, sour cherry, and violet, along with floral hints of hibiscus. On the palate, pomegranate and ripe plum emerge, with a medium body, soft tannins, and a vibrant acidity that keeps the finish lively. Gambero Rosso awarded two red glasses to the 2018 vintage in 2020—a solid accolade for this price range.
Serving suggestion: Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb, pasta with tomato sauce, pecorino cheese, or hearty antipasti. Ready to drink now, until approximately 2026.
