A purple-red everyday wine from the deep south of Italy — direct, fresh, and uncomplicated to drink.
The Statti winery is one of the best-known producers in Calabria and has been cultivating large parts of the Lamezia plain near the Tyrrhenian Sea for generations. The family stands for accessible wines that show the Mediterranean character of the region — sun-ripened fruit, moderate structure, suitable for everyday use.
The I Gelsi Rosso (named after the mulberry trees of the region) is traditionally vinified red, 30% of the berries remain unpressed — this preserves fruit intensity and ensures a soft tannin structure. The temperature-controlled fermentation keeps the aromas fresh: sour cherry, red plum, and a hint of black pepper, light spice in the finish. The palate is juicy, the acidity moderate — not an edgy wine, but one that is fun right after pouring.

At what temperature should I serve it?
Ideally at 16–18 °C — i.e., slightly chilled, not at room temperature. Briefly in the fridge (15–20 minutes) is usually enough.
Is this a wine for special occasions or more for everyday life?
Definitely everyday. The I Gelsi is designed for uncomplicated drinking — straight after pouring, without a long wait. Good for a Tuesday evening with pasta or a spontaneous gathering on the balcony.
How long does the bottle last after opening?
Sealed and kept cool, it will keep well for two to three days. However, because of its fresh fruit and moderate structure, it is best on the evening it is opened.
The Winery
Calabria – "Enotria Tellus", land of wine. Wine has been cultivated here for millennia; over two millennia ago, the Greeks brought indigenous grape varieties with them. The brothers Antonio and Alberto Statti have dedicated themselves to the revival of this tradition.
Their goal: to interpret Calabria in a modern way, to make the importance of the old grape varieties internationally visible. A challenge, because Calabrian wines are almost unknown today.
The Stattis want to give them back the good reputation they had in antiquity. A mission with taste.
