I Gelsi Rosso Calabria IGT

A deep purple everyday wine from the far south of Italy — direct, fresh and easy to drink.

The Statti winery is one of Calabria's most renowned producers, cultivating large parts of the Lamezia plain near the Tyrrhenian Sea for generations. The family is known for approachable wines that reflect the Mediterranean character of the region—sun-ripened fruit, moderate structure, and perfect for everyday enjoyment.

I Gelsi Rosso (named after the region's mulberry trees) is traditionally vinified as a red wine, with 30% of the berries left unpressed—this preserves fruit intensity and ensures a soft tannin structure. Temperature-controlled fermentation keeps the aromas fresh: sour cherry, red plum, and a hint of black pepper, with a touch of spice on the finish. The palate is juicy, the acidity moderate—not a heavy, complex wine, but one that's enjoyable right from the pour.

State

Calabria – “Enotria Tellus,” land of wine. Wine has been cultivated here for millennia, and over two thousand years ago the Greeks brought indigenous grape varieties with them. Brothers Antonio and Alberto Statti have dedicated themselves to reviving this tradition. Their goal: to offer a modern interpretation of Calabria and to raise international awareness of the importance of these ancient grape varieties. A challenge, as Calabrian wines are virtually unknown today. The Stattis want to restore the excellent reputation they enjoyed in antiquity. A mission with a distinct flavor.
