Spätburgunder "Blauschiefer" QbA

A dry Spätburgunder from the Ahr, where fruit and spice balance each other out. The “Blauschiefer” from Meyer-Näkel shows how animating and at the same time elegant Pinot Noir from this soil can be.

The Ahr is one of Germany's best-known red wine regions, and the Meyer-Näkel winery is one of the defining addresses there. The name of the wine refers to the slate subsoil that makes up the style of the region. In the glass is a medium ruby red with a light rim. On the nose, the fiery slate note of the Ahr mixes with currant, ripe raspberry, and almost meaty tones.

Medium-bodied on the palate, with fresh acidity and drive. The spice lies surprisingly strongly over the fruit; the tannin only makes itself felt later and carries the long finish. Serve it at about 16 °C, for example with duck breast, venison saddle, mushroom risotto, or a ripe mountain cheese.
