Scharlachberg Riesling *** GG QW Rheinhessen 0.75L

The Scharlachberg is one of the best-known single vineyards in Rheinhessen — a steep slope above Bingen, whose red weathered slate actually lights up scarlet in the evening sun. From this soil, the Riesling draws a minerality that clearly distinguishes it from the lighter wines of the plain.

Weingut Prinz Salm has been farming the site for generations and is one of the houses that established Rheinhessen as an origin for serious Rieslings. The Große Gewächs — the highest quality level of the VDP — stands for hand-picked grapes from the heart of the site and strict selection in the cellar.

In the glass, the wine shows aromas of white peach, citrus zest, and a fine herbal spice. The acidity is precise and taut, the body dense, the finish long and characterized by a salty, slatey note — typical for this volcanic soil structure.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass with lemon butter, veal medallions with lemon butter, or ripe mountain cheese. It also cuts a fine figure as an accompaniment to Asian dishes with clear spice.
