Rings Spätburgunder dry

This Pinot Noir from the Rings winery shows what the Palatinate can do with Pinot Noir: no heaviness, but real substance — thanks to small-berried grapes and careful cellar technique.

The Rings family cultivates their vineyards around Freinsheim in the northern Palatinate wine region with a clear focus on manual labor in the vineyard. This conviction is also evident in this entry-level wine: used barriques instead of new oak, unfiltered bottling – both preserve the fruit depth and natural character of the grapes.

The glass reveals aromas of dried sour cherry, a hint of smoke, and dark chocolate in the background. The palate is fresh, with fine acidity and soft tannins—no oak flavor, just fruit with depth. The finish is clean and medium-long.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with lamb chops, duck breast with cherries, or a mature goat's gouda. Also enjoyable on its own — uncomplicated, but not banal.

Rings

VDP Member Estate

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
