Rings Riesling Annaberg GG 1.5L Magnum

Rings Riesling Annaberg GG 1.5L Magnum
The Annaberg is one of the great sites of the Palatinate — and the Rings winery from Freinsheim is one of the producers that justifies this reputation year after year. The 1.5-liter magnum gives the wine additional time: slower oxygen exchange, longer aging potential.
Brothers Andreas and Steffen Rings farm the Annaberg on sandstone-containing, chalky soil. The cool microclimate of the forest-surrounded site ensures slow grape ripening and a distinct acidity structure. In the vineyard, they work with green manure made of buckwheat, clover, and radish as well as horse manure instead of artificial fertilizer — the soil remains alive, the roots dig deep.
After hand-harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed, and fermentation takes place with natural yeasts. Ten months of yeast aging in Halbstück and stainless steel build texture without masking the fruit. In the glass, the Riesling shows aromas of white peach, citrus zest, and fine limestone. The acidity is precise, the finish long and salty-mineral.

The beginnings of today's VDP winery were laid by the parents of Steffen and Andreas Rings with a mixed agricultural business, which was run as such until well into the 1990s. From the year 2000, Steffen Rings occupied himself with the business and restructured it into a pure winery. From 2008, Andreas Rings also returned from his training at the Wagner-Stempel winery and has been running the winery in Freinsheim in the Palatinate together with his brother Steffen since 2008. On the 30-hectare winery, red and white grapes grow in equal halves. The sites have different soils - gravelly sand, Terra Rossa (red earth) and limestone - on which predominantly Riesling, Pinot Noir and international grape varieties thrive. The individual sites belong to Freinsheim, Kallstein, Ungestein and Leitstadt.
