Piano del Cerro Aglianico del Vulture DOC

This wine is an explosion of flavor and a revelation. Its tamed tannins and richness make it a perfect companion for hearty braised dishes like veal cheeks with red cabbage and dumplings. But it's also an excellent wine for contemplating cold winter evenings. In the glass, the Riserva displays a deep black color with reddish reflections. On the nose, the Aglianico is very full and spicy. Aromas of tobacco and leather complement vanilla notes from the barrel aging. These are joined by fruity aromas of black cherries and blackberries. On the palate, the wine is very intense with full-bodied, yet almost velvety tannins. The acidity, typical of the variety, is very well integrated and supports the spicy aromatics, while the balsamic notes come to the fore. The town of Acerenza lies in the heart of Basilicata, in the Aglianico del Vulture growing region, approximately 150 km east of Naples. This is the home of the young winery Vigneti del Vulture, which emerged from the collapse of a local cooperative. The meticulously maintained vineyards lie at an altitude of up to 80 meters above sea level, and primarily cultivate local grape varieties. The "Piano del Cerro," made entirely from the local Aglianico grape (the Barolo of the South), is a prime example. After careful harvesting, destemming, and hand-sorting, the must is fermented or macerated in wooden vats for 5-6 months. The wine is then pressed and aged for 15 months in French oak barriques. Following this extended maturation period, the wine is bottled and rests for a further 12 months in the bottle to harmonize and mature. Great Aglianico, a very good bargain for

Great Aglianico, a very good bargain for this price! Really an excellent, complex yet elegant expression of the best of southern Italian grapes.

The dream of wine lovers

This is the wine that wine lovers are looking for. It has a harmonious, wonderfully fruity, slightly oily cherry taste, which is very, very excitingly permeated by a little vanilla woodiness, which...

Still one of the best Aglianicos

The Piano del Cerro has always been my favorite Aglianico. Unfortunately no longer as expressive as the earlier vintages. Price/performance is right, because it has also become a bit cheaper. Never...

Poor price-performance ratio

A good wine, but it doesn't quite reach the quality of Aglianico wines I have drunk before. A pity, because I love this grape variety and this growing region very much. For that, the price is very ...

Vigneti del Vulture

Discover the Vigneti del Vulture winery, which gets its name from the Il Vulture volcano, through which lava soil was formed in prehistoric times, which is rich in minerals and thus offers excellent conditions for the vines of the Pipoli and Piano del Cerro wines. The rosé as well as the white wine present fruity, floral notes, whereas the red wines lean towards spicy notes.
