Peter 1893 Lagrein Riserva
Lagrein is South Tyrol's most distinctive red wine variety — and the Peter 1893 Riserva from Cantina Andrian shows what this grape variety can deliver: dark fruit, velvety tannins and a depth that extends beyond the vintage.
Cantina Andrian has been producing wine for generations in the municipality of Andrian, north of Bolzano, in the heart of the Überetsch region. The name "Peter 1893" refers to the cooperative's founding history. Lagrein thrives here on the heavy, mineral-rich soils of the Adige Valley—a terroir that gives the grape variety its typical density and depth of color.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, plum, and dark chocolate, along with a hint of violet. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with soft, ripe tannins and a fresh acidity that keeps the wine vibrant despite its richness. Aging in barriques imparts notes of cedar and toasted spices to the long finish.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window until 2029. Pairs well with braised beef, venison ragù or mature mountain cheese — also ideal for an evening with a little more time.
