Montessu Isola dei Nuraghi IGT
Montessu is Agricola Punica's entry into the Sardinian red wine world — and it shows what Carignano can do on the island when the grape variety is taken seriously.
Agricola Punica was created as a joint project between the Sardinian cooperative Santadi and the Tuscan winery Tenuta San Guido (famous for Sassicaia). The vineyards are located in southwestern Sardinia, where old Carignano vines root deeply in sandy soil—a terroir that gives the variety structure and depth.
Deep ruby red in the glass. The nose offers dark berry fruit, blackberry and plum, along with a characteristic hint of licorice and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied with soft tannins and a pleasant freshness on the finish—not a heavy, blocky red wine, but one that is truly easy to drink.
Serving suggestion: Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb, Sardinian meat dishes such as porceddu (suckling pig), or hearty pasta ragùs. Also a good choice with mature pecorino cheese. Drink now – not a wine for long-term aging.
