Agricola Punica Barrua Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Double Magnum

Barrua is Sardinia's answer to great Mediterranean red wines – a Carignano-dominant blend from the Sulcis region in the southwest of the island, which demonstrates with each vintage what the sparse maquis landscape can coax from ancient vines. In the 3-liter double magnum, it matures more slowly and develops greater depth than in the standard bottle – a format for special occasions.

Winery & Origin
Agricola Punica was founded as a joint project between Sebastiano Rosa (of the Sassicaia family) and the Sardinian Cantina di Santadi. Wine legend Giacomo Tachis, father of Sassicaia, developed Barrua as the flagship wine: Carignano from old, partly ungrafted vines in the IGT region of Isola dei Nuraghi, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The soils – reddish clay over granite – and the dry coastal climate fundamentally shape the style.

Sensors
Eighteen months of aging in barriques leave a distinct signature: dark blackberry and black cherry, underpinned by licorice, myrtle, and a hint of tobacco. The tannins are ripe and dense, without being harsh. The finish reveals the Mediterranean spiciness of Carignano – salty, with herbal notes reminiscent of rosemary and juniper.

Drinking recommendation
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2032+, larger formats benefit from further aging. Pairs well with braised leg of lamb, wild boar ragù, or mature Pecorino Sardo. The double magnum is perfect for large gatherings – celebrations, family meals, anniversaries.

Agricola Punica

Agricola Punica – one of Sardinia's most exciting stories. Founded as a joint project between Cantina di Santadi and the Tuscan winemaker Giacomo Tachis, their mission is to revive the island's ancient vines. Sardinia is no ordinary wine country. Grape varieties like Carignano and Vermentino carry millennia of history within them. At Punica, these characteristics are given free rein. No pretense, no embellishment – just fruit, sun, and barren soil. What awaits you? Deep red berries, Mediterranean herbs, a salty hint of sea air, and a warmth that feels like an evening on the island. Punica – Sardinian roots, unforgettable.
