Agricola Punica Barrua Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Double Magnum

The Barrua is Sardinia's answer to great Mediterranean red wines – a Carignano-dominant cuvée from the Sulcis in the southwest of the island, which shows with every vintage what the barren macchia landscape can get out of ancient vines. In the 3-liter double magnum, it ages more slowly and develops more depth than in the standard bottle – a format for special tables.

Winery & Origin
Agricola Punica was created as a joint project between Sebastiano Rosa (Sassicaia family) and the Sardinian Cantina di Santadi. Wine legend Giacomo Tachis, father of the Sassicaia, developed the Barrua as a flagship: Carignano from old, partly ungrafted vines in the IGT area of Isola dei Nuraghi, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The soils – reddish clay over granite – and the dry coastal climate fundamentally shape the style.

Sensory profile
18 months of barrique aging leave a clear signature: dark blackberry and black cherry, underpinned by licorice, myrtle, and a hint of tobacco. The tannins are ripe and dense, without appearing harsh. The finish shows the Mediterranean spice of the Carignano – salty, with herbal notes reminiscent of rosemary and juniper.

Drinking recommendation
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Larger formats benefit from further aging. Goes well with braised leg of lamb, wild boar ragù, or aged Pecorino Sardo. The double magnum is perfect for large tables – celebrations, family dinners, anniversaries.

Agricola Punica

Agricola Punica – one of Sardinia's most exciting stories. Founded as a joint project between Cantina di Santadi and the Tuscan winemaker Giacomo Tachis, their mission is to revive the island's ancient vines. Sardinia is no ordinary wine country. Grape varieties like Carignano and Vermentino carry millennia of history within them. At Punica, these characteristics are given free rein. No pretense, no embellishment – just fruit, sun, and barren soil. What awaits you? Deep red berries, Mediterranean herbs, a salty hint of sea air, and a warmth that feels like an evening on the island. Punica – Sardinian roots, unforgettable.
