Micina Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane

Nerello Mascalese is the grape variety of Mount Etna — here it comes from the vineyards of Sicily as an approachable, characterful red wine without the price point of the cult volcano wines.

Cantine Cellaro is a cooperative winery in southwestern Sicily, founded in 1969 by local winegrowers from the region around Sambuca di Sicilia. Today, Cellaro vinifies grapes from approximately 500 hectares of vineyards and is considered a reliable source for varietal Sicilian wines produced using a modern winemaking style. Their Micina is their entry into the world of Nerello Mascalese—the 2017 vintage was awarded gold at the Berlin Wine Trophy.

In the glass, ripe aromas of sour cherry and pomegranate unfold, accompanied by delicate balsamic notes and hints of dried herbs—typical of Nerello Mascalese with its subtly Mediterranean, spicy character. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, the finish long and velvety. An uncomplicated, easy-drinking red wine with a true varietal character.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C . At the table, it pairs well with Sicilian pasta with meat ragù, grilled lamb, or spicy pecorino cheese. It also goes well with pizza topped with salami or a slice of coppa.

Cantine Cellaro

Cantine Cellaro comes from the heart of Sicily – from Sambuca di Sicilia, where the sun beats down intensely and the vines root deep in barren soils. What is produced here is reflected in the taste: powerful wines with character that mirror this rugged, fascinating island.

The cooperative winery combines the knowledge of many Sicilian winemaking families and vinifies it into wines ranging from simply approachable to multi-award-winning. A lot of Sicily for your money – and genuine discovery in a glass.
