Kloster Pforta – behind this name lies one of Germany's oldest wine stories. Grapes have been cultivated here on the banks of the Saale River since 1138, first by monks, and today by the state winery, which continues their work with the same dedication. The vineyards around Pforta are exceptional: far north, at the 51st parallel, where summers are short and intense. This is precisely what gives the wines their character – clear fruit, vibrant acidity, and a mineral freshness that you recognize immediately. Whether a Riesling from the steep slopes of Saalhausen or a Pinot Blanc from old vines: here you can taste what this landscape has to offer. Almost 900 years of experience sounds like tradition – and it certainly is. But Kloster Pforta looks to the future. The winemakers know their soils inside and out and give the grapes the time they need. The result is wines that can surprise you, precisely because they come from a region that many have yet to discover.
