Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs
The Karthäuserhofberg monopole vineyard covers almost 20 hectares and faces south-southwest. It lies at an elevation of up to 254 meters above sea level and has a slope of up to 55% in its steepest parcels. The microclimate, located just before the Ruwer flows into the Moselle, and the soil, characterized by pinkish-copper Devonian slate, make it a paradise for producing top-quality Rieslings. The grapes come primarily from our oldest parcel in the Karthäuserhofberg vineyard, the Kronenberg, with vines approximately 90 years old. After selective hand-harvesting, the grapes were gently pressed whole. The must was aged for 18 months in wooden barrels, where fermentation took place using natural yeasts. After fermentation, the wine was allowed to mature on its lees until bottling.
