Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Cabinet
A Kabinett that shows why the Ruwer forms its own category for Riesling connoisseurs: light-footed, yet surprisingly dense – with that fine tension between sweetness and acidity that cannot be constructed.
The Karthäuserhof is located in the Eitelbach valley, a side valley of the Ruwer, and is one of the oldest wineries on the Mosel. The Karthäuserhofberg is a single, contiguous large site – the name on the label comes from a time when one did not yet need fantasy names. Blue slate shapes the soil, the cooler microclimate of the Ruwer ensures slow ripening and natural freshness.
On the nose, the wine opens with elderflower, jasmine tea, and ripe mirabelle. On the palate follow honey blossoms and a hint of white almond, underlaid by a slatey-salty pull that reminds of lime zest with sea salt. The residual sweetness remains lean – it balances the lively acidity without covering it up. The finish shows a light smokiness and lasts longer than the weight of the wine would suggest.
- Serving temperature: 8–10 °C
- Food: Asian cuisine with ginger or coriander, fried goat cheese, light fish dishes, or as an aperitif
