Karthäuserhof Schieferkristall Riesling dry

The Schieferkristall is the estate wine of the Karthäuserhof — and thus the most direct answer to the question of what this winery in the Ruwer Valley stands for: Riesling with cool fruit, lively acidity and this unmistakable slate minerality.

The Karthäuserhof estate near Trier-Eitelsbach is one of the Ruwer region's most historic wineries. The estate boasts a monastic history dating back to the 14th century and is today one of the most reliable producers of classic Mosel Riesling. The Schieferkristall (Slate Crystal) wine blends grapes from several vineyards—the Karthäuserhofberg vineyard as well as the Ruwer villages of Mertesdorf and Waldrach—thus capturing the estate's terroir spectrum in a single wine.

On the nose, citrus peel, fresh herbs, and a mineral slate accent. On the palate, despite its lean body and low alcohol, the wine displays real power: the acidity is crisp but not harsh, with a fine, smooth finish. Not an opulent wine—rather precise and coolly calculated.

Serving temperature 9–11 °C. Pairs well with grilled perch, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a mild goat cheese. Also a good choice as an aperitif when you're looking for something with a bit more substance than a light sparkling wine. Drinking window: now until 2027.
