Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Alte Reben Riesling dry

The Eitelsbacher Alte Reben from Karthäuserhof shows what old vines in the Ruwer valley can achieve: dense fruit, lively acidity, and a minerality that comes directly from the Devonian slate.

The Karthäuserhof in Eitelsbach is one of the oldest wineries in Germany — documented as early as the 14th century. The steep slopes along the Ruwer, a tributary of the Mosel, provide more concentrated harvest material with their old vines than young stocks: less yield, more depth. The estate's local wines come exclusively from Eitelsbach sites and reflect the characteristic Ruwer valley profile.

On the nose, the wine opens with brioche, dried herbs, and rosehip, plus sun-ripened peach and apricot. On the palate, a lively, firmly integrated acidity carries the creamy texture — no contradiction, but the typical Ruwer valley play. Crystalline minerality runs through to the long finish, which ends with subtle pepper spice and cool freshness.
