G Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent QW Burgenland 0.75L
A cuvée of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent that shows what the Burgenland can do on red slate and limestone soil: depth without heaviness, spice without intrusiveness.
The Gesellmann winery in Deutschkreutz is one of the defining addresses in the Mittelburgenland. The family farms their vineyards organically and focuses on the classic red wine varieties of the region — Blaufränkisch as the backbone, St. Laurent for silkiness and fruit.
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby garnet with violet reflections. The nose brings wild berries, marshmallow, and licorice, plus dried herbs and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, it is dry, with a present but ripe tannin structure and a spicy length that is typical for well-situated Blaufränkisch.
Best served at 16–18 °C — with roast beef with onions, grilled lamb, or a strong mountain cheese.
