How does the Feudo Arancio Nero d'Avola taste?
Dry and velvety with distinct dark fruit — currant, wild berry — and an expressive bouquet. Aging in barriques gives the wine structure without overpowering the fruit.
What does the wine pair best with?
Classically with lamb and veal, but also with salsiccia, pecorino, or a hearty pizza. Sicilian antipasti and young cheeses like Primo sale or Vastedda also work well.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Best at 14–16 °C — i.e., slightly cooler than room temperature. Putting it in the fridge shortly before pouring is enough.
Is this a heavy, tannin-rich red wine?
Not in the classic sense. Nero d'Avola brings body and fruit, but remains accessible — the wine is velvety and pleasant, not a heavyweight with a hard tannin structure.
How do I store the opened bottle?
Sealed and stored in a cool place, an opened bottle of wine will keep for two to three days. A vacuum seal extends this slightly.
The Winery
Feudo Arancio – the "orange farm" – was founded in 2001 by the Trentino cooperative Mezzacorona and today cultivates 700 hectares of vineyards on Sicily's windy south coast, divided between two estates in Sambuca di Sicilia and Acate.
Behind the facade of a classic Baglio, the traditional Sicilian country estate, oenologist Matteo Covazzi works with state-of-the-art cellar technology.
Sustainability is not just a buzzword here: in 2002, Feudo Arancio was the first Italian winery with EMAS certification for the entire production chain and stores rainwater in seven artificial lakes with a capacity of 900,000 cubic meters. The result is honest, characterful Sicilian wines at a price that requires no long deliberation.
