D'Antan Gavi dei Gavi® DOCG
La Scolca's D'Antan Gavi dei Gavi® DOCG is not an everyday wine — it needs time to show what it's made of: around ten years of cellar aging before it is bottled.
La Scolca is considered a pioneer of modern Gavi. The winery in Monferrato, south of Alessandria, has significantly shaped the DOCG appellation and has vinified exclusively Cortese grapes from its own vineyards for decades. The D'Antan is produced only in the best vintages—from a selection of the estate's highest-quality grapes.
In the glass, it reveals what long aging does for a white Piedmontese wine: flint and walnut dominate the nose, joined by toasty notes and a hint of roasted almonds on the finish. The acidity is present but integrated—not sharp, but a dense, mineral structure that carries the long finish.
Serving suggestion: Best served at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with risotto with white truffle, grilled sea bass, or a strong hard cheese like Parmigiano Reggiano. Once opened, don't rush it—this wine will develop significantly in the glass over 20 to 30 minutes.
