Cuvée PICAPOLLE

The Cuvée Picapolle brings a historic, almost forgotten grape variety of the Languedoc back into the glass. A red wine that stands out due to its fine structure and unadulterated freshness – far removed from massive, heavy southern French wines.

Château Fontarèche is one of the oldest wineries in the Corbières appellation, with roots dating back to the 13th century. On calcareous clay soils, this traditional estate cultivates long-established grape varieties. This cuvée focuses on the rare Piquepoul Noir grape. It naturally brings a lively acidity structure and bright fruit aromas, which are precisely brought out through gentle vinification without the use of oak.

On the nose, aromas of wild strawberries, red currants, and a subtle hint of wild thyme emerge. On the palate, the wine presents itself as lean and straightforward. The tannins are soft and fine-grained, while a light peppery spice ensures a persistent, juicy finish.

This red wine is a versatile companion for Mediterranean cuisine. It pairs well with braised vegetables like ratatouille, grilled guinea fowl, or a classic French charcuterie board with air-dried salami. Serve it best slightly chilled at 15–16 °C.
