Pinot Nero Umbria IGT

Pinot Nero Umbria IGT
A Pinot Nero from Umbria that shows how well Burgundian character works in the heart of Italy: 8 months in new French Allier oak barriques, followed by 15 months of bottle aging – a total of over two years until release.
Castello della Sala is located in the hills north of Orvieto, at an altitude of around 400 meters. The winery belongs to the Antinori family and is primarily known for its white wines – the Pinot Nero is a counterpoint, taking advantage of the cooler night temperatures at this altitude to maintain freshness and structure.
In the glass: cherry, raspberry compote, and a hint of cedar from the barrel aging. The tannins are ripe and fine-grained, the body medium-bodied, the finish with a pleasant spiciness. Not a heavy red – rather lean and very drinkable.
Recommendation: Pairs well with veal medallions, mushroom risotto, or aged pecorino cheese. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Drink now or wait until 2027.
