Castello della Sala is an Italian winery founded in 1350 and owned by the renowned Antinori family. The estate comprises a total of 500 hectares, of which 160 hectares are dedicated to vineyards. An additional eight hectares are olive groves. The vineyard soils, composed of tuff and volcanic rock, combined with the sunny climate and proximity to the sea, provide excellent conditions for viticulture. Castello della Sala cultivates grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Grechetto, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Bianco, and Viognier for its wines. The winery produces approximately 600,000 bottles of wine annually.

Since 1350, Castello della Sala has stood on a hill in Umbria , about 100 kilometers north of Rome. What was once built as a medieval fortress is today one of Italy's most important white wine estates — and has been owned for decades by the Antinori family, who have consistently focused the estate on international grape varieties.

The 160 hectares of vineyards lie on soils of tuff and volcanic rock, which retain heat but also provide natural freshness. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Grechetto, Riesling, and Viognier thrive here in a climate influenced by the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea—cooler nights, long ripening periods, and pronounced aromatics. In addition, there are eight hectares of olive groves, whose oil completes the picture of a complete estate.

The wines are precise and age-worthy: no heavy, high-alcohol white wines, but rather cuvées and varietal wines with depth that reflect a well-structured terroir. Around 600,000 bottles leave the estate annually—from approachable entry-level wines to mature, barrel-aged Chardonnays that easily rival Burgundian wines.
