Already in the 60s, a small cantina was created, which mainly served for self-production and was founded by Antonio and Domenico Cotarella. In 1979, the hobby became a real winery that received the name "Falesco" and whose goal was initially to maintain the old vine stocks in the region. 20 years later, production is so successful that the Marcialano agricultural business can be purchased with another 260 hectares of land.

This is located on a hill in the region around Orvieto - which belongs to the municipalities of Montecchio and Baschi. In 2016, the generational change took place: Dominga, Marta, and Enrica took the helm. In 2017, the last winery for the time being, "Le Macioche", was acquired in Tuscany.

Famiglia Cotarella: Lazio meets Umbria

What began in 1979 as a small winery in Montefiascone is now one of the best-known houses in Central Italy. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella – both trained oenologists – founded Falesco with a clear goal: to preserve and reinterpret the old grape varieties of the region around Lake Bolsena. On volcanic soils that give the wine an unmistakable minerality, varieties such as Aleatico, Trebbiano, and Malvasia, which had long since gone out of fashion elsewhere, were grown.

In 1999, the Marciliano estate south of Orvieto was added – around 260 hectares on a hill between the municipalities of Montecchio and Baschi in Umbria. A new winery was built there, and with it the Montiano: a Merlot that shows what the region can achieve when craftsmanship and terroir come together. Today, the vineyard area covers almost 280 hectares of owned land, supplemented by leased areas.

Since 2016, the three daughters Dominga, Marta, and Enrica have continued to run the winery under the name Famiglia Cotarella – with the same demand for origin and craftsmanship, but their own view of the future. In 2017, another winery, LeMacioche in Tuscany, was added. What connects the family: respect for the soil and the conviction that good wine takes time.

Your event tickets now arrive via QR code

For our events, you will now receive a separate ticket for every seat — with a QR code, sent directly by email after purchase. At the entrance, simply show the code on your phone, and you are in.

Ticket email with two links and a ticket with QR code, name and 'Guest 1 of 2'

One ticket per person. If you buy three tickets, you will receive three links — 'Guest 1 of 3' to 'Guest 3 of 3'. Each link is an individual ticket. If you are arriving separately, simply forward the links to your companions.
By email, once paid. The 'Your tickets' email arrives automatically after payment. You can also find your tickets at any time in your customer account under 'Events'.
Phone or paper. The QR code works just as well from a screen as it does printed out. On the ticket page, there is a 'Print / save as PDF' button for this purpose — including the date, time, and address.
Invited? If we have invited you as a guest, you will receive your ticket the same way after you have accepted. The ticket will then state 'As our guest · Free admission'.
At the entrance. We scan the code; each ticket is valid once. If you don't have your phone, the team at the entrance can also find you by your name — so you will get in regardless.
