Castalides Icône AOP Languedoc Pézenas

A profound and concentrated Syrah from the Languedoc, capturing the wild landscape of southern France in the glass. The Castalides Icône from the Pézenas appellation impressively demonstrates how multifaceted this grape variety can become in this Mediterranean climate.

The La Grange winery lies in the heart of the garrigue, surrounded by wild rosemary, thyme, and lavender. Since 2008, Renate and Rolf Freund have managed the estate and assembled an experienced team. Under the guidance of Nicolas de Saint-Exupéry and head winemaker Eric Thomas, expressive, terroir-driven wines are created here. Also on hand to advise is winemaker Kyriakos Kynigopoulos, who lends this powerful southern French wine a remarkable finesse and cool elegance.

In the glass, the wine reveals itself as exceptionally complex. Dense aromas of black berries mingle with spicy pepper, Mediterranean herbs, and dark licorice notes. This intense fruitiness is accompanied by subtle roasted aromas and earthy hints, which lend the wine structure and depth. On the palate, it presents itself as concentrated, yet maintains its balance throughout the long finish.

This Syrah unfolds its full potential best at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 °C . It is an excellent accompaniment to braised leg of lamb with rosemary, hearty game dishes, or a classic roast beef. It also pairs very well with mature hard cheeses.
