Bockstein Riesling GG

The Bockstein is one of the great single vineyards of the Ockener Saar – steep, blue slate, characterized by long ripening. Nik Weis brings a Riesling from here that shows what this site can do: tension, depth, aging potential.

The St. Urbans-Hof winery has been one of the most reliable addresses on the Mosel and Saar for decades. Nik Weis, who leads the estate in the third generation, works with old vines on steep slopes that allow exclusively hand-picking. The Bockstein is one of his flagships – the demands on vinification and aging are correspondingly high.

In the glass: star anise and lavender in the nose, underscored by fig pear and mandarin. The acidity is precise and densely woven, without appearing sharp – a sign of slow ripening on slate. The finish is salty-mineral, long, with a slightly spicy herbal note.

This wine needs time. Those who open it now should decant it at least two hours beforehand. Temperature: 10–12 °C.
