Nik Weis Wiltinger Alte Rebe

Vines that have been rooting in the soil since 1905 need no explanation — they speak through the wine. The Wiltinger Alte Rebe from Nik Weis is an Ortswein (village wine) that shows what red Devonian slate and extreme root depth can do to Riesling.

St. Urbans-Hof on the Saar is one of the most reliable addresses for mineral-precise Rieslings. The Wiltinger site is south-facing — maximum sun ripeness despite the cool Saar climate. The over 100-year-old vines dig deep into the slate and extract minerality that younger vines simply cannot reach.

In the glass, it shows a Riesling with a clear structure: earthy-mineral tones, ripe citrus fruit, a herbal, slightly spicy undertone. The acidity is present but integrated — not a sharp cut, but a supporting line that sustains the long, salty finish.
