Schiefer Riesling

The Schiefer Riesling is the modern terroir calling card of the Mosel and Saar regions – a dry or slightly off-dry Riesling that lives up to its name, reflecting the very essence of the soil. The name says it all: grown on red or blue slate, on steep slopes where the vines dig deep into the barren subsoil and the sun sweeps across the hillsides almost all day long. The result is a wine with a clear structure, a pronounced minerality, and a fresh, juicy character that immediately captivates.

From the best vineyard plots, hand-picked, fermented with spontaneous yeasts and aged in stainless steel – the human element remains in the background, allowing the slate to speak for itself. Sometimes with 10–12% alcohol, sometimes a little more, but always with a focus on freshness, vibrancy, and a long, enjoyable finish.

In the glass, a bright golden color with green reflections. The nose opens with citrus, apple, or yellow peach, accompanied by delicate herbs, a touch of fennel, and a distinct, slightly salty minerality. On the palate, clear and precise, with juicy acidity, a delicate creaminess, and a long, slightly smoky finish – the slate remains perceptible.

Depending on the winemaker, between 10.5 and 12.5% ABV, served at 8–10 °C. An ideal accompaniment to fish, seafood, light pasta dishes and cheese – enjoyable to drink, with a clear profile and no frills.
