Laurentiuslay Riesling GG

Laurentiuslay Riesling GG
The Laurentiuslay is one of the great Mosel Rieslings that show what slate can do to a grape variety: tension, length, depth.
The St. Urbans-Hof winery in Leiwen has been managed by the Weis family for decades. Nik Weis has made the house one of the most reliable names on the Mosel — with a consistent focus on site expression rather than cellar technology. The Laurentiuslay site lies on weathered Devonian slate, which stores water, reflects heat, and gives the Riesling this typical Mosel minerality.
In the glass, the 2021 shows a clear, yellow-green color. On the nose, citrus zest, white peach, and a fine slate scent reminiscent of wet stone. On the palate, taut acidity that does not feel aggressive but carries the wine — creamy texture due to aging on the lees, long, salty-mineral finish. A wine with backbone and composure.
- Food: Pan-fried zander, crayfish bisque, aged Comté, or Asian cuisine with ginger and lime
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
